Home Page and Home Page Slides

(We will want a video guide here too)

Home Page

The Home Page template controls the layout and appearance of the main site landing page. You do not need to manually enter content onto the Home Page, as the Teaser Blocks populate as you add research reviews, scholar profiles, and other elements of the site.

By default, the Home Page template includes Teaser Blocks for the Research AMP content types (Research Topics, Research Reviews, Articles, and so on), as well as an editable “Call to Action.”

The Home Page is not editable in the "Pages" section of the Dashboard. Instead, navigate to Appearance > Editor. This will open up the set of templates that govern the appearance of your site, and use can use it to customize the navigation bar and add things like a site logo and tagline.

The Home Page template is designed to be ready to use upon installation. However, there are a few sections which require manual configuration prior to your site’s launch.

Home Page Slides

The Home Page Slides block contains sample content in a fresh installation of Research AMP. The homepage slides can be created and customized by navigating to Dashboard > Homepage Slides. Click "add new" and follow these steps to add a homepage slide:

  1. Dashboard > Homepage Slides > Add New

  2. Set the title, descriptive text, and the featured image

  3. Add text to the "Meta Text" box, if desired

  4. Add Button Text, and the Button URL. These power a link to another part of your Research AMP site. For example, if you are previewing an article, you can write "Read More" in the Button Text box, and then add a link to the article in the URL box. This will make the link appear on the homepage slide.

The Home Page Slides can either be automatic, or you can configure them to have users click through each of the slides.

You may also choose to modify the following aspects of the Home Page:

  1. The Call to Action section is populated with some default text (“Get involved in our project…”). Edit this section in Dashboard > Appearance > Editor to fit your project’s needs, or delete it.

  2. The Article Teasers block on the Home Page is configured by default to use the ‘Featured’ layout, which shows a featured article in the left-hand column. Once you have created one or more Articles, use the Article Teaser Block’s configuration tools to set the home page’s Featured Article; or change the layout to the ‘List’ or ‘Grid’ layouts, which don’t require a Featured Article to be set. See Teaser Blocks for more information.

  3. The WordPress block editor allows you to move these blocks up and down on the page so they can take any order on the site; their current order on the home page is just a suggestion. Use the block editor toolbar to move them.

  4. You may choose to enable, or disable, any of the blocks. For example, if you choose not to use the profiles function, do not enter any information into it, and it will not appear on the home page. If you want to enable it later, you can.
